Kankakee, IL - Day 17

Boy does it stink!  No it's not Wayne.  The water at this park has a strong rotten egg smell.   Yuck!

But I digress.

The first 50 miles of our trip today were bypassing St. Louis, MO.  It was a very urban, busy road - up to six lanes in each direction.  We waited until the morning rush was over before heading out.  We had looked at the route on Google Earth last night, so we knew exactly what we were getting into.

After crossing the Mississippi River,  we were in a new state - Illinois.  Abruptly we had left the city and were in a very rural agricultural area.  For the next 200 miles or so the road passed through farmland.

Welcome to Illinois

The countryside was very peaceful and flat.  Really flat.  Flatter than Saskatchewan.

Tomorrow we head for Elkhart, Indiana.  The RV capital of the world.  And deep into Amish country.  Can't wait.
